Luxury Villa Rentals in Rome - Castelli Romani
Rome - Castelli Romani Luxury Accommodation
The Castella Romani ("Castles of Rome") is a group of communes in the province of Rome. They are located at short distance south-east to Rome, at the feet of the Alban Hills. The area of the Castella occupies an ancient, fertile volcanic area which has allowed since ancient times a flourishing agriculture. The former crater is occupied by two lakes, the Lake of Noemi and that of Albano. Starting from the Romans, it was an area frequented by the noblemen of Rome for its fresher climate during summer: the tradition was followed by the Popes which still have their summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, on the Lake Albano. Families which ruled in the castellan include Rossini, Colonna, Chiai, Aldobrandini and Ruspoli. The cool climate, the presence of the lake, and the fertile fields have transformed this place into a holiday resort for the Popes and noble families, as demonstrated by some wonderful villas and palaces like Palazzo Chigi, in Ariccia, and Villa Aldobrandini, in Frascati. The area to the southeast of the Eternal City has long been appreciated for its mild winters and cool summers that allowed Roman families to keep an eye on their palaces in the city. Now you can get in Rome in as little as 25 minutes by train. A perfect place for those who want to visit Rome during the day and retreat to a quiet paradise each afternoon. Many naturalistic, historical gastronomic and archaeological itineraries are possible too. The area is renowned for the production of wine, including the white wine of Frascati and the Castelli Romani. The archaeological park consists of acres and acres forests and fields, leading to evocative ruins scattered among chestnuts and majestic pine umbrella: the Villa of Emperor Tiberius, the remains of an amphitheatre, the spectacular Tusculum Theatre, a 2600-year-old cistern, and a set of ancient walls.
Transportation: A railway line runs from Rome's Stazione Termini. The rail journey is very scenic, passing Rome's aqueducts, vineyards and market gardens before skirting Lake Albano If you are flying into Ciampino Airport, staying in the Castelli Romani and relying on public transport, you can catch the train at Ciampino Station, or the bus at Anagnina Metro Station, without going into Rome.
