SICILY

The Liberty Style, also known as Art Nouveau, was a popular architectural and decorative style that emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Palermo, the capital city of the Italian island of Sicily, has a rich history of Liberty Style architecture. Visitors to Palermo can admire the city’s Liberty Style architecture looking at the Teatro Massimo, the Palazzo dei Normanni, also known as the Royal Palace, Villa Trabia, Palazzo Sant’Elia, and the Palazzina Cinese. In the same style that showcases the intricate decorative details and flowing lines, Villa Raggiosa was built in Mondello at the beginning of the 1900’s. Mondello is less 7 miles from Palermo and its beach is a long stretch of white sand surrounded by crystal-clear waters. It is popular for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports such as windsurfing and kiteboarding – in fact the town is home to the World Festival on the Beach, an international gathering that annually brings together various sporting events.
There are also many restaurants, bars, and cafes along the beach, making it a great place to spend a vacation. Overall, Mondello is a great destination for those looking to enjoy the sun, sand, and sea while also experiencing the natural beauty and culture of Sicily.

LIVING SPACES
Ground floor:
This exquisite villa reflects the owner’s desire to offer guests a high sense of welcome. The spaces were renovated with respect to the past and are functional, elegant, and comfortable. The preserved Liberty architectural details are everywhere, from the flower motifs, ceramic tiles design, the iron handrail of the stairs, the moldings, and stuccoes, to the colored glass windows. The major idea behind this style was to maximize the use of natural light, incorporating large windows, skylights, and other features to create bright, airy interiors – at Raggiosa, natural light floods the well-appointed living room, the adjacent dining area and even the kitchen.

OUTDOOR FEATURES
The villa is set in a beautiful, manicured garden shadowed by ancient big Mediterranean trees – shaded areas that are a blessing during the hot summer hours. The private pool enjoys a sunny position and has steps for easy access. A panoramic outdoor dining table is set on the terrace of the villa for candle-lit Sicilian dinners al fresco.

Sicilia

The island of Sicily is distinctly different from the rest of Italy as it floats just off the toe of the Italian mainland. The Capital city Palermo is splendid with its chaos and treasures. Be prepared to explore the palaces, castles and churches which are a fusion of Arab, Norman, baroque, and Renaissance gems. Life in Palermo is quite full on. A very warm hearted and noisy affair.

The people of this city love to eat. Whether they are shopping, or on their way home from work, they are always enjoying little hot snacks prepared at street stalls. A famous chickpea fritta, custard filled croissant, potato croquette, or an oily pizza topped with onions and caciocavallo cheese are just a few examples of the delicious food available in the street stands.

Sicily is a part of Italy that starts to take on a flavour of Greece or of north Africa.
